Creative testing on Meta, without burning the budget
On Meta the creative does the targeting. A structured testing programme beats clever audience stacking almost every time.
Stop splitting budget six ways
The most common mistake is running many small ad sets, none of which gather enough conversions to exit the learning phase. Consolidation is unintuitive but it works, because the system optimises better with more signal in fewer places.
Test hooks, not colours
Variations that change the first two seconds, the opening line or the offer produce real differences. Variations that change a button colour produce noise you will misread as insight.
Set kill rules before you launch
Decide in advance what spend or impression threshold triggers a decision, and what result counts as a win. Without that you will keep losing creative alive on the strength of a good first hour.
Keep a library
Every tested hook, good or bad, belongs in a documented library with its numbers. Six months in, that library is the most valuable asset in the account, and it is the thing most agencies never hand over.
Fix tracking first
None of this matters if your events are firing incorrectly. Verify the pixel, the conversions API and deduplication before you spend a serious budget optimising toward numbers that are wrong.
